Car's due for a major service, is it really worth shopping around?

My 2017 340i is coming up on the big service interval and I've been putting off booking anything because the dealer quote was honestly a bit shocking. I get that these cars need proper care but I'm not convinced the fancy showroom is worth the premium, so I've started asking around for alternatives. Someone in my building mentioned they'd had Quality BMW major service in Musaffah done at a place that specialises in these cars and said it was night and day compared to the dealer on price without cutting corners. I'm tempted but also a bit cautious because I've heard stories of cheap services using the wrong oil or skipping the small checks that actually matter down the line. For those who've gone independent for a major service, did you notice any difference in how the car drove afterwards or was it basically the same job for less money?
