Bipolar Laparoscopic Instruments are designed to give surgeons the ability to divide tissues by creating an electrical current between two insulated poles. Bipolar poles are connected to the main unit, which generates the electric current. Bipolar instruments have a metal contact point on each pole. Bipolar contact points are typically in the shape of a spear, but can also be in the shape of a blade.
