external hard drive not showing up - data recovery requires attempting to recover data from a hard drive that is not being shown or accessed through regular File Explorer. First, see if your drive is visible in Disk Management as Windows may detect the physical hard drive without assigning a drive letter to it. In case it gets detected, refrain from formatting, initializing, or creating new partitions when you still have important data on the current drive. Microsoft suggests limiting the use of the computer during data recovery since the new data may simply overwrite the data that can be recovered. Notchox can be used for such situations involving external drives.
