A tiny opening between the skin and bowel near the anus is known as an anal fistula. It typically develops as a result of an anorectal abscess, either recent or past. Anal gland infection is the primary cause of anorectal abscesses. The infection eventually develops into a pus-filled abscess. When an abscess doesn't entirely heal with or without therapy, it might subsequently develop into an anal fistula.
